Kickstarter Spotlight: In the footsteps of the Mad Wizard:Forbidden Psalm Expansion

Occasionally a Kickstarter catches my eye more than most and I feel it's worth getting the word out there about it.  Forbidden Psalm is definitely one of them.

Forbidden Psalm is a miniature agnostic table top skirmish game based on/compatible with Mork Borg.  The sheer old school wackiness of the rules and aesthetic won me over almost instantly however I missed out on the initial Kickstarter for the core book but the new campaign allows you to get this and the expansion, which continues the campaign, together.
The game is very much fueled by the hobby experience where you kitbash your band of misfits to pit against whatever evil they're thrown against or perhaps you want to draw your own paper monters and characters instead?  The book is a well spring of inspiration for both and the limit is your imagination.  There is even a monster creation competition currently ongoing over on Discord and Instagram which ends with the Kickstarter (in 5 days as of posting) so why not join in and maybe you'll get your monster in the new book!

If you love random names (you might see a familiar one in the new book, wink wink), character generators, weapons tables, socks and some of the nuttiest monsters you're ever likely to fight then go check out the Kickstarter and head over to GMG on YouTube as Ash has been playing through the main campaign:

Kickstarter Spotlight: Terminator Genisys: Rise of the Resistance

A new Terminator board game has just launched on Kickstarter and is being published by River Horse under their current license and developed by Lynnvander Studios.  It is set just prior to the first 15 minutes of Terminator: Genysis and includes the characters from that film.  Now I know most people didn't like the film or the characters portrayals however a Terminator is a Terminator and I'll take any chance to play around in that world... cue that theme song.

Reprogrammed T-800 fighting for the Resistance before being sent back to 1984

Skynet's secret weapon and also a one time medical practitioner

One of the major draws for me is that the miniatures are compatible with the existing table top game from River Horse so I'll be expanding that game in a major way (Matt Smith and Arnie sculpts in Resistance gear along with a ton of Termies) as well as having what looks like a cool board game/dungeon crawler.

Quick catch up...

As I haven't been posted as often I thought I'd give a quick update as to what I've been up to.  Though I've been relatively quiet on here the same cannot be said for hobby time, which has seen the play through of The Devil In Iron campaign for Conan and we're now playing through Kingdom Death: Monster (I'll do a separate post for this as it deserves it's own spotlight but I have never gamed this much, such an addictive game) as well as squeezing in a game of Dark Crystal from River Horse Games and preparing the still boxed ships for Star Wars Armada which will be the next game we're going to run with.

Dark Crystal - a talisman style game but very thematic, I had the soundtrack blasting out while The Chamberlain became Emperor of Thra forever!

Other than sleeving lots of cards and PVA-ing cardboard there hasn't been much to show off for Star Wars: Armada however the recent Thrawn expansion did come with two Mandalorian Gauntlet Fighters so I gave them a quick lick of paint

I thought I'd also mention a couple of Kickstarters which I'm currently backing and may be of interest.  First up we have Pacific Rim from River Horse Games.

This is a game of Jaeger vs Kaiju based on the upcoming film plus the original film with 75-115mm pre-painted (not so)miniatures.  Personally I love a good giant monster movie and really enjoed the first Pacific Rim film so this was a must for me, especially as I've always been impressed with River Horse games.

The next game probably doesn't need and introduction as it's been quite heavily covered on various hobby sites, Batman: Gotham City Chronicles.  This is a Kickstarter exclusive game by Monolith and uses an updated version of the THS system which was used for Conan and on that alone we've gone all in, the game system is brilliant and will work fantastically for Batman.

Kickstarter Focus: Core Space by Battle Systems

Just a quick post today to draw your attention to another Kickstarter, this time from the great chaps at Battle Systems called Core Space.
Battle Systems are best known for their pre-printed card terrain (it's superb to use and you can see what you can expect from them in this earlier post of mine ) however this campaign is for a new sci-fi skirmish game.  It looks like its going to be a blast to play and uses their terrain, of which you'll be receiving a very nice amount, interactively for missons/looting etc.

Head over to Kickstarter and check them out, I've also put some key images and videos below for the game:

What you get in the core box (minus stretch goals)

Chaaaaarrrrgggeee!!!!!!
Painted miniatures in the terrain (the game is also compatible with their other terrain)

Two 'Let's Play' videos form Beasts Of War

And lastly my favourite, the Titan Pledge

And now a break from your normal programming schedule... Kings Of War: Vanguard

Not a normal post from me (though don't worry the Ork jetbikes are close to being completed so pictures will be up soon) but as you may know I'm a keen fan of the Kings of War rules from Mantic, not only for use with their own miniatures but for large scale games of Lord Of The Rings.  Well they're expanding the world of Mantica with a new game system which looks very promising, Kings Of War: Vanguard.

Here's the blurb from Mantic:

Before the first charge, before weapons clash in brutal close combat, before the victor gathers the spoils of war, battles in Mantica can be won by the brave deeds of small, elite bands of warriors.
These are the fighters relied upon by their commanders to identify tactical positions, light beacons to show their comrades the fastest route, or harry and disrupt their enemy’s vital supplies. If the raiding parties do their job well, the war is won long before the battle lines have even been drawn.

FANTASY SKIRMISH RULES – take command of a crack team of elite fighters, including captains, support units, weapons experts, along with grunts and warriors to overwhelm the opposition
IN-DEPTH CAMPAIGN SYSTEM – track the progress of your key members to earn experience and gain new abilities or improved stats
FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH KINGS OF WARS – use the incredibly detailed, dynamic miniatures from Vanguard as the heroes or elite troops in your Kings of War army
3D SCENERY – use Mantic’s new range of pre-assembled, plastic TerrainCrate scenery to bring your skirmishes to life, and with lots of different scenarios to play, every battle will look – and play - differently
INNOVATIVE RULES – issue special commands in the heat of battle with the unique Power Dice abilities, and gather your troops with the Group Actions
EQUIP YOUR FIGHTERS – ahead of the fight, choose from a range of equipment to improve the abilities of your characters, or unlock new and more powerful abilities during campaign play

I see a lot of promise in not only the rules system itself but also the potential of being able to cross over into full on games of KOW or even Dungeon Saga in one narrative arc.  I've already got myself some bases coming from www.warbases.co.uk so that both my Lord of the Rings/Hobbit and Conan miniatures can sit inside them (https://warbases.co.uk/?product=regiment-tray-25mm-slots-2mm-top-layer the 1x1 option here for those interested) as square basing in integral to the rules.  More importantly Mantic have put up the Alpha rules so that you can give them a try:

If you're interested in the game why not give it a try and then head over to the Vanguard Fanatics group on Facebook to let Mantic know how your games went and chat with other players.
From what we've already seen we'll be jumping in on the Kickstarter and probably have a game this weekend, now to get out those Abyssals from Dungeon Saga...

Conan by Monolith Games

The finally arrived when Conan (wave one) landed at our doors and oh what a day.  The box was large and heavy and it contained some fantastic miniatures which will not only be used for the game itself but will also be used for the RPG by Modiphius and due to the amount of miniatures received games of Conan Rampant are not out of the question.
I'm keeping the text to a minimum and will let the photos do the talking so without further ado (I've kept the photos larger than usual so you can hopefully see a bit more)...

The Big Box

The game box and contents

There is another tray of 'minions' which in my excitement I forget to photograph

The stretch goals box and contents

The add on boxes

The guest artist boxes

As you can see that is quite the horde however this is not it all and a second wave of miniatures is due next year which will comprise all of the expansions, I can't wait!

Dwarves At Arms by Macrocosm Miniatures

I just wanted to give you all a little heads up about a Kickstarter that is currently running by Macrocosm Miniatures:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2076383099/dwarves-at-arms

The Kickstarter itself is for several ranges of multi-part Dwarves each based upon a real historical time period and all having a certain classic Citadel feel to them.  However the real gems for me personally are down in the add ons section:

Now these fine well fed fellows are going to being the basis of a Hobbit army which will see use in Dragon Rampant and King Of The Rings.  Again they've got a great old school vibe to them and so much character, I saw these up close at the Derby Worlds show and knew I had to have some (and at that price how could you not!).
Now it isn't only the shorter in stature miniatures which are getting the attention as there are now a range of Ogres dressed as peasantry available along with the Jotnar and I cannot emphasise how awesome these look:

They have that Scandinavian Troll feel but I don't think they'd be out of place in the Hobbit, perhaps harassing farmers after venturing out the the Trollshaws?
