Masters of the Universe: He Man & Skeletor

Here's one that has taken me back, watching the cartoon on ITV and playing with the toys with elasticated joints, Masters of the Universe: Fields of Eternia.

Mounted He Man and Skeletor miniatures have had limited edition miniatures released by Archon Studios before the launch of their Fields of Eternia board game later this year.

To get that 80s animated feel I went with a pre-shaded contrast paint job to make sure they had that vibrant pop I remembered from the show.

These were one piece resin sculpts (believe it or not) packed with detail which helped the contrast paints do what they do though a really skilled painter could really go to town on these.
After painting these I'm interested to see what the hard plastics of the boardgame, which is coming later this year, will be like.

Warhammer 40k: The Black Legion

Here's a project that's been a long time in the making.  Chaos Space Marines we're the first miniatures I collected in the hobby and I remember staring at these sculpts in their blister packs in my local toy shop with wonder.

My legion of choice was always the Black Legion so a few (or more) years ago I started to collect all the sculpts I couldn't afford back in my youth with the aim to paint up an army, well it looks like that time is now.

The paint job is a simple one, mostly dry brushes and washes but it works well enough and I like the way they have turned out, especially as I have a few more of these squads to get done, never mind all the modern minis.

I have another squad of metal minis to finish and then a squad of the original plastics before moving on to the more elite choices which include a Rogue Trader Terminator squad.

Warhammer 40k: Necron Raiders

I recently bought the the new Indomitus box for 40K and after building all the Necrons in that I had the sudden desire to work on my 2nd Ed Necron Raiders which have been hiding in my pile of shame for let's say quite a while.  I've always loved the look of the original Necron sculpts, really chunky and menacing, I mean look at those faces!

Luckily I snagged all these off of eBay years ago at a really low price and in a decent condition.  All I had to do was give them a bath in Iso to help remove to excessive super glue and then rebuild them.  As I had two Lords I decided to do a simple conversion to add a little variety which has worked out quite well combined with the different paint scheme.

For the paint job I have tried to keep as close to the original paint scheme they had back in the day but with some added pop thanks to the new contrast paints (which work great over metallics) and the Necron neon glow paint.

I kept the basing the same as Amy's Necron army so that they could be used as one whole force if desired and I think it works very well with them, Vallejo's Black Lava texture paint with a green dry brush and the odd crystal or two here and there.

As always I've thoroughly enjoyed working on these old miniatures, so much so that I've starteds to put some paint on my Black Legion now but more on them later...

War of the Sundered Realms

This is just a quick post to invite you to check out my new fantasy mass battle rule set called "War of the Sundered Realms".  It's a quick and simple rule set which means you don't need to spend all your game time with your head buried in a book, instead you'll be thinking of new ways to out wit your opponent and beat them to a bloody pulp!

The rules and army lists are available to download from the following website:

https://warofthesunderedrealms.blogspot.com/

There's also a Facebook group where you can share any feedback or pictures of battles you've had:

Core Space: Rogue Purge & Shift Change at Megacorp expansions

Another quick little project before delving back into 40k for 9th Edition, the two latest expansions for Core Space.

These are different than the base game or previous expansions in that they are resin miniatures however this does mean the sculpts are very will detailed.
As for the painting it's more contrast paints over a pre shaded base coat, which works great for this range and means I can get them done quickly.

Highlander The Boardgame

A quick little project all done and dusted, Highlander The Boardgame.

I managed to get these done in four days thanks to contrast paints (yet again) though I was having some trouble with them.  The surface tension was all screwy, almost like I was trying to put them on a gloss varnish.  I've not had this before and hope it's the last time I do!

Some nice sculpts here from the film (and not from the film) but my favourite has to be Connor MacLeod, such an iconic image.

Hellboy The Boardgame: Completed!

It's been exactly one month since I started this project and it's done!
Obviously this was made possible thanks to the lockdown here in England but also GW's contrast paints, which when put over a pre shaded base coat work very well to get a look that I'm more than happy with for the table top.

The final batch of miniatures were the characters from The Wild Hunt and the Box Full of Evil.

It must be said by this stage I was getting a little fatigued with painting so much but there were some lovely sculpts in this batch which certainly helped getting them done.

As since of you may be aware there is one miniature left to come to finish these off and that's the new Giant Robot Hellboy which is coming out in a couple of months.
Until then I think it's time to work on those new Core Space releases...

Hellboy The Boardgame: Hellboy in Mexico, The Wild Hunt and a Box Full of Evil

Lots of pictures today of what I've finished off during this week which includes Hellboy in Mexico and various monsters from the Box Full of Evil and Wild Hunt expansions.

Never thought I'd find myself painting Luchadors but they where fun to paint and I love the Hellboy and Camazotz sculpts.
Next are a selection of minis from The Wild Hunt and Box Full of Evil expansions.

With these done I'm just one batch of miniatures away from completing all the Hellboy miniatures (until Giant Robot Hellboy shows up), it's been quite an eclcectic set set to paint up.
