Dungeon Saga and Forces of Nature

While I've been working on Blackstone Fortress Amy has been working through Dungeon Saga and has completed a lot of the Hero miniatures now.  Many of these will also see action in KOW Vanguard once we get around to playing that.

As a small break from Dungeon Saga she also painted some more of the Wargames Foundry miniatures for her Forces of Nature army.

Blackstone Fortress: Minions

Well it's been far too long since my last post but all has not been quiet on the painting table, I've been busying away trying to get Blackstone Fortress painted up so that we can get cracking on playing the game (something we've really been looking forward to).  To that end these are simple table top standard paint jobs, just base coats, washes and some dry brushing where required.  They aren't going to win any awards but will look decent enough on the table.

The first thing I wanted to tackle were the minions, leaving the characters till the end, so I started with the Traitor Guard.  For the game you need to be able to distinguish between the two groups so instead of painting the base rims I decided on two different colour schemes.

With the Beastmen I wanted these to look like they worked with the Traitor Guard so kept the colour palette the same.

Next up were the Negavolt Cultists, I wanted these to really stand out as something different and decided to go with a Borg-like skin tone which I though worked quite well as a counterpoint to the glowing energy core on their backs.

For the Ur-Ghuls I did the simplest of paint jobs (two layers of drybrushing and then a couple of washes) but I'm really happy with how they turned out, so much so I think this is how I'll be painting my Nightstalkers for Kings Of War Vanguard.

The last group of minions are the Spindle Drones, part of the Blackstone Fortress itself so again I wanted these to be set apart in how they look so went with a very bright silver and turquoise scheme.

Finally (and fresh off the painting table) are the Rogue Psykers.  As these are sort of leader models I put a little more time into their skin tones so they stand out a little more but I also wanted to test out how I plan to paint skin tones for my Black Legion.

So that's all the minions painted up which means it's time to move on to the characters and I'll be tackling Rein and Raus first.

Chaos Space Marine update and Granny Weatherwax!

Happy New Year everyone!

It's been over a month since my last post and to be honest not too much has been done due to the usual festivities over the Christmas holidays however I have managed to get a few things sorted.

Firstly we have something a little left field that I painted up for a present, Granny Weatherwax.  I had a lot of fun painting her as she was quite a departure from what I'm use to and from the reaction she received it looks like I'll be painting a few more Discworld miniatures in the future.

On the 40k front I've gotten wave one of construction done and managed to get them base coated when the weather allowed.

I've started construction on a few Forgeworld items now but another project (though related) has jumped in the queue somewhat...

New Project: Chaos Space Marine Armies (Black Legion and Death Guard)

It's been some time since I last posted but I've been away on a rather nice holiday along with a few other real life things which came up however all has not been quiet at the hobby desk!  In fact I would say I've been rather productive as I dived head first into my Chaos Space Marine armies for 40K.  As usual there's a definite old school feel to the armies as I'm using some of my favourite miniatures from when I first collected the Heretic Astartes but this doesn't mean they are limited to just older minis, in fact they'll be a range of minis included from Forgeworld all the way through to the brand new Blackstone Fortress game.

So here's a break down on how the build has gone, it started with a large box of mainly metal bits which I had tremendous fun routing through, and ended up a rather nice looking force.

I've now got around half of this undercoated and as soon as the weather improves I'll get the rest done too.  What remains to be built are a squad of the Hounds of Abaddon (Khorne Berzerkers kitbashed from AOS minis) along with some current CSM vehicles, a whole host of Forgeworld goodies and all the new Death Guard minis.
