First post to my blog

Well I've decided to finally take a dip into the world of blogging.  I currently post updates of my various hobby projects over several websites but I thought it would be nice to have everything in one place (as well as having somewhere to put up my random thoughts on the hobby).  So to start with I thought I'd put up some of my favourite projects that I've completed of the last couple over years since getting back into the hobby.

First up we have some Doctor Who, been a fan since watching Colin and Sylvester as a child and then watching Troughton and up on UK Gold as a teenager.  I'm now a massive Doctor Who 'nut' (for lack of a better term) having collected all the DVD's and now started on the Big Finish audio books so it was only a matter of time before the miniatures made there way into my collection.
What we have here is a collection of miniatures from Black Tee Design and Crooked Dice (with miniatures from Heresy to make an appearance at some stage and a police box from Ainsty):

Next up we have another great range of miniatures, the Fallen Dwarves from Miniatures of the North.  I fit these into my Lord Of The Rings gaming as Dwarves who have succumbed to the bribery and riches which Sauron has offered them and reside in the East of Middle Earth.  These are truly glorious miniatures (available from Anvil Industries) with great character and minimal clean up or preperation required:

Now onto the Batman Miniatures game from Knight Models, I've not actually played a game yet as I primarily bought the models to paint and display as liked them so much.  Now these chaps weren't the easiest to put together and I had to rebuild Gordon's forearms and gun but I enjoyed painting them and I'm happy with the results:

Next up we have a couple of small forces for Mantic's Warpath, namely the Veer-myn and Enforcers.  You'll be seeing much more of these once the second Deadzone shipment arrives (I'm currently building all my Deadzone/Warpatch terrain) and then when we finally get the Warpath Kickstarter:

Nearly done now ;) Here we have some of the miniatures from the Sedition Wars game from Studio McVey, as with most 'restic' miniatures they aren't the easiest to prepare but once painted they do look very nice.  As these will be pulling double duty as a Corporation for in Warpath they've received some heavy support in the form of some Old Crow tanks, the clean aesthetic of these goes very well with the Sedition Wars Vanguard but I'm still on the look out for some decals to break up all that blue!

And finally we have the centre piece of my collection, it was something I commissioned from Shadow and Flame to sculpt and paint and I can't put into words how happy I was when I saw the end results.  I present to you Gothmog, Lord of Balrogs:

You'll be glad to read that's it for now, the only things which I haven't covered here are my rather sizeable Easterling and Black Numenorean army for Lord Of The Rings and my German army for Secrets of the Third Reich which both need better photos before I post them up.
My next blog will cover my recent return to the 2nd Edition of 40k which came about from the discovery of the rather splendid people of the Oldhammer community but more on that next time.

  1. A great range of miniatures for a first post and some outstanding painting too. The fire effects on Gothmog's base is exceptional! I am looking forwards to seeing what you have in store for us with your next post too! Hopefully, some lovely classic models painted via your talented painting skills

    1. Cheers orlygg. Well as my entry into the world of Oldhammer has just begun there's going to be a lot of naked metal on show ;) along with a painted Eldar force I was lucky enough to pick up plus some other bits and bobs. I'll be taking some photos this weekend of it all.

  2. All your models are very nicely painted. The flames on the Balrog are particularly effective.

    1. Thanks Marcus though Kev of Shadow and Flame did the mighty fine paint job on the Balrog.

  3. Weird - you said your stuff was scattered over the internet and turns out I'd seen all of this stuff before spread across different forums (and thought it was all really good, especially your fallen dwarf army from one ring). I think that says something bad about how much time I spend on the interwebs...
Also, your blacks and use of muted, dark palettes are really impressive.

    1. Thanks Samulus, I do have images spread across various forums and facebook groups which is why its nice to have a central point for them all now.

    1. Cheers Patrick, I still have quite a bit of Terminator to go through (mainly characters) so they'll be popping up on the blog at some point. You also might want to check out the Terminator board game which is currently on Kickstarter, it's through the River Horse license and the miniatures will be compatible with the war game: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1522166213/terminator-genisys-rise-of-the-resistance.
