Lord Of The Rings army lists for Kings Of War

Just a quick post with an update to the Lord of the Rings army list for KOW, available through the link below, which now includes some of the new units Forgeworld have been bringing out (Iron Hills Dwarves and Gundabad Orcs and Goblins etc).
Please remember that these list are not super competitive and may not be totally balanced however we have plenty of fun with them and nothing seems to be too broken, if you do come across anything or have any suggestions then please let me know.

EDIT:  I've now put together my own fantasy rule set which can be used for gaming in Middle Earth, please feel free to head over to the website and download the rules and army lists:

Forces of Nature: Big update

It's been a while since I did an update on Amy's Forces of Nature army so there's quite a bit to show off now (with more on the painting table at the moment).

Mantic Earth Elemental (I love the mossy arm)

Some 70s Treemen picked up at BOYL (Oldhammer weekend) couple of years ago, Kev Adams sculpted some extra leaves on the character's head that weekend.

A Foundry treeman

An old GW Treeman picked up at a wargames show.  This was already painted so just need a little touching up and then basing to match the rest of the force.

A Forest Troll from the Armies of Arcana range

And finally my favourite sculpt, the Treeman from Otherworld Miniatures.

Amy has been painting this weekend so they'll be a couple more things to post up soon.

Star Wars: Imperial Forces and Maul Complete

After a weeks holiday (where I did get some painting done but was mainly enjoying the fine weather we're experiencing at the moment) I've hit the painting table and rocked on with the Imperial forces for my Star Wars Rebels gaming along with finishing off Maul.

A tricky miniature to paint due to the amount of black but thanks to the Rebels concept art which can be found online I managed to stick pretty closely to his appearance from there (and again if you are a Star Wars fan but haven't watched this yet go pick it up now, well worth sticking with for some excellent story lines).

Next up we have the classic Stormtroopers and then Riot Troopers from the Heart Of The Empire expansion for Imperial Assault.

I followed Sorastro's guide for painting these over on YouTube which was very helpful and I think they've turned out very well.

I first saw the Sentry Droids on Rebels on loved their design and were one of the reason I ended up buying the Imperial Assault miniatures over the Legions range (the fact that within a couple of months you'll be able to pick up most of the major characters from Rebels as well also helped).

A simple paint job for these and again I followed the concept art from Rebels, they look great next to the Stormtroopers as they tower over them.

Lastly we have some heavy support in the form of an AT-DP, I really enjoyed painting this and got to use Typhus Corrosion (with a touch of Ryza Rust) properly for the first time for the weathering which really makes this pop.

With the Imperial forces completed I've now moved on to the Rebel scum, as usual progress pictures over on my Instagram account https://www.instagram.com/crucium.giger/

Star Wars: Imperial Update

Just a quick update to show my progress so far on the Imperial Assault miniatures.

The Stormtroopers are done now, Sorastro's guide on YouTube was a great help with these and really made them come out the best they could.  It's also the first time I used Vallejo's Dark Earth texture paint, I gave it a dry brush with some Vallejo Brown Sand and it looks good enough with just that (a very neutral look which is what I was looking for).

Next up we have the Sentry Droids which just need the basing finishing off (loved these in Star Wars Rebels) and the AT-DP is well under way (weathering this morning, Typhus Corrosion is a god send).

Star Wars: A New Project

I realised in my last post I hadn't mentioned what I would be moving on to after the Sedition Wars miniatures so here's a quick work in progress post to show where I'm at.  Of course you've guessed from the title it will be Star Wars however it will be played using the Starfall rules www.starfalltt.com with the Imperial Assault miniatures and set during the Rebels timeline.
What has spurred me on to this new project was a trinity of events, the ending of the excellent Star Wars Rebels (if you haven't seen it and you are a Star Wars fan you owe it to yourself to check it out, the show starts off decently enough but by the end the show's arc has developed considerably and includes some of my favourite moments in the Star Wars franchise), the release of the Starfall rules which will be perfect for this scale of game and finally Fantasy Flight announcing the Lothal expansion for Imperial Assault which will give me all the miniatures I need.

To start with I'm working on the Stormtroopers as they'll be the hardest thing to work on with all that white however I ordered some Arctic White from Instar Paint https://shop.instarpaint.com/ after hearing some goods things about them and it looks very promising as the white is nearly covering the charcoal in one layer.
As usual my work in progress photos will be up on Instagram instagram.com/crucium.giger/ with finished photos going up here (I'll be trying out the black background in my photo box next to see how that looks).

Sedition Wars: Vanguard Characters Complete (plus playing with a light box)

I finished off the Vanguard characters a week or so ago but I've held off taking some photos of them as I ordered a light box (nothing flashy, in fact literally the cheapest I could find on Amazon) and wanted to try it out with them.  As such not all the photos are of the best quality but I think they are a step up from when I was using shoe box lids and should improve as I get better using the light box (as well as my camera again as it's been a year since I've used it, the camera phone wasn't up to taking photos with the light box as it kept dimming the lighting).

You've previously seen both Kara and Akosha but I think these do them a bit more justice:

Next up is Barker, unfortunately the focus is a little off in these and it hasn't picked up his flesh colour all too well.  This is the first time I've tried my hand at a sort of none-metal-metal technique, more in a comic book style, along with some object source lighting both of which have turned out quite well for first attempts.

Lastly we have Morgan, again the focus is a bit dodgy but the photos aren't too bad generally.  On the Studio McVey paint job they have him wearing latex gloves so I thought I'd give that a bash and again it turned out quite well, I painted his hands as I normally would then gave them two layers of white glaze followed by a highlight using the glaze mix with more added white.

Overall I'm quite please with how the light box has performed though due to it's size it's only good for photos of individual characters rather than squads or vehicles so I may invest in a better/bigger one in the near future.
